DECATUR, Ga---After vandals trashed her small Decatur church, the Deliverance Life Tabernacle, almost a half-dozen times, one parishioner had enough.
Katrina Milton "Raised Her Voice" to 11Alive to help get something done.
"I'm so emotional. I'm very mad about the situation -- about us not getting any kind of help from anyone. We've been vandalized over five times and nobody has come to see about us," Milton said.
But after Milton raised her voice, that's changing.
One look around the Deliverance Life Tabernacle in Decatur tells the story. Signs trashed, the property in disarray, and inside, the remnants of vandals stopping at nothing.
"They chiseled their way through and just busted everything in and we found everything they did lying on the floor and it was just in shambles," said Rev. Tammy Doe, the Church Pastor.
"We don't know how many eyes have been watching us over these times as we come and go, but it looks like their eyes were more than ours, so they had the liberty to come in and take different things from the church and just kind of vandalize everything," Doe said. "What they took included the heating system, air conditioning, busting the dry walls, ripping everything down, even right down to my pool pit and that was heartbreaking...If they would patrol the area that would be a great blessing," Doe said.
We reached out to the DeKalb County Police and they will do just that.
"What the South Precinct officers have agreed to do is make every attempt to increase their regular patrols at this location," said Capt. Stephen Fore of the DeKalb County Police Department.
A great relief for the parishioners.
But that was not all.
As we presented Milton with her 11Alive Red Shirt for "Raising her Voice" voice -- another surprise: a $1,000 gift card from Home Depot to help the church rebuild.
"Yes, yes!" said Milton, "that is excellent and it is just what we needed to get started."
Increased Police patrols, and now community support---more than just a start for the Deliverance Life Tabernacle.
(The Church is also getting addition assistance from Ackerman Security of Atlanta. They are a full security analysis to the church administration).
