ATLANTA -- We have big news about a three-year-old with Downs syndrome who became a trending topic nationally last month.
Will Markwell, famously known by the #WillRocks hashtag, returned to school Monday after undergoing open-heart surgery earlier this month. He returned home three days after the surgery.
"He is a new boy since the surgery and we are so proud of him," Zack Markwell wrote in an email to 11Alive.
After his return home, he told 11Alive's Matt Pearl it was the "best result possible".
"He had the surgery 8:30 on Friday morning. By noon he was down in the ICU, and 24 hours later, he was sitting up, waiting to go on a wagon ride," Markwell said.

"He's got so many challenges each and every day that he goes through," said his father. "This is one thing we get to not worry about anymore. His heart is fixed, and he's back to Will."
Will required surgery to fix a hole in the top chamber of his heart. According to his family, full recovery will take roughly six weeks.
