NEW ORLEANS (WWL-TV) -- Police have booked the driver in Friday's fatal accident that took the life of a triathlete on Chef Menteur Highway.

Howard Vidrine, 34, was arrested and booked with negligent homicide, negligent injury, driving on a suspended driver's license and reckless operation of a motor vehicle, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

Vidrine's car struck two triathletes who were taking a bike ride. Both were scheduled to compete in the weekend's Ironman race. The crash occurred along the course on Highway 90 near Venetian Isles Friday morning.

Frank Guinn, 36, a veteran firefighter from Atlanta, was killed and his 40-year-old brother-in-law was critically injured.

A friend of the Guinn family has set up a fund to help pay for funeral expenses, and to give the family a start on a college fund for the Guinn daughters. That link can be found at http://www.gofundme.com/89mhhs.
