MARIETTA, Ga. -- Fire officials are investigating the cause of a blaze at a Marietta apartment complex that injured two people on Monday.
The fire at the Crestmont Apartments in the 500 block of Williams Drive left 20 families displaced.
11Alive's Valerie Hoff learned two people suffered burns in the fire, and one of those victims also broke an arm while jumping to escape the flames. Both are being treated at an area hospital. No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Residents reported hearing an explosion shortly before the fire began. The two injured people were inside the apartment where the explosion occurred.
More than 40 Marietta firefighters spent much of the morning bringing the blaze under control. At least 16 of 20 unites were destroyed by the fire.
"The building will be a total loss," said Assistant Fire Chief Tim Milligan. "Two-thirds are completely gone and the damage is extensive."
American Red Cross of Georgia spokeswoman Sherry Nicholson said the agency will meet with displaced residents throughout the afternoon to determine their needs. The Red Cross will provide lodging, food, clothing and other essentials to those who lost their homes.
