DENVER (WXIA) – What's described as the "most prestigious" beer competition – the 2014 edition of the World Beer Cup -- took place over the weekend in Denver and three Georgia home-grown favorites came away with some high accolades.
Savannah's Moon River Brewing earned a gold medal against 35 other entries in the Classic Irish-style Dry Stout category for its The Bomb Dry Stout.
Competing against 48 other entries, Atlanta's SweetWater Brewing's Happy Ending picked up a silver medal in the American-style Stout category. SweetWater also landed a bronze medal in the American-Belgo-Style Ale category for its Whiplash.
Another Atlanta brewery, Monday Night Brewing, picked up a bronze medal in the Scotch Ale category for its Drafty Kilt Scotch Ale. Forty-six other entries competed against Drafty Kilt in the category.
Breweries from all over the world competed in 94 individual beer categories.
