ATLANTA -- Three students were taken into custody Wednesday afternoon after officers found they had been in possession of a handgun at Frederick Douglass High School in northwest Atlanta.

The school was placed on lockdown at about 11:30 a.m., when school administrators said they received information about a possible gun on campus.

During the lockdown, the school's campus was searched by the APS Safety and Security Department, the Atlanta Police Department and other law enforcement agencies.

The lockdown was lifted just before 3 p.m.

According to Atlanta Police Officer John Chaffee, three students were taken into custody and a weapon was recovered. The three were each charged as juveniles with possession of a firearm on school property, possession of a firearm while under the age of 18 and disrupting public schools. They were taken to the Fulton County Youth Detention Center.

No injuries were reported.
