WOODSTOCK, Ga. – U.S. Marshals say a fugitive has been caught in Lamar County.

Marshals were attempting to arrest the man, identified as 36-year-old Billy Owens, when he somehow got away, jumped into a car and fled. They said he crashed his car a short distance away and ran into a wooded area around Arnold Mill Road.

Wednesday afternoon the search moved to Lamar County near Barnesville. Authorities say he was caught trying to break into a home off of Highway 36.

Owens was wanted on multiple charges in Fayette and Pike counties, as well as new charges in Meriwether and Cherokee counties. According to U.S. Marshals, Owens has an extensive criminal history with several convictions for violent crimes and narcotics.
