(NBC NEWS) -- According to a poll moderated by NBC News and the Wall Street Journal, 45 percent of Americans prefer President Obama over Mitt Romney (35%) as commander-in-chief of the United States.

The poll, also, asked Americans who they think better "looks out" for the middle class and President Obama came out on top of that question with forty-nine percent (49%) of the votes; President Obama had thirty-three percent (33%).

However, when asked who has better ideas on how to fix the economy Republican front runner, Mitt Romney prevailed with a forty-three percent (43%) of the votes.
