(WXIA) -- What happened the last time you rolled over a pothole? Your teeth chattered, your car bumped, and you let out a curse. When it happened to a couple in 2009, they got creative. The result today is a series of amazing pothole transformation photos going viral.

Davide Luciano told 11Alive's Julie Wolfe he and his wife, Claudia Ficca, came up with the project as a humorous way to expose the ridiculous pothole problem in their hometown of Montreal. (Sound familiar, Atlanta?)
"Along the way, we realized that sometimes we can't change things that frustrate us, but we have the power to change our perspective toward those things. That is what this project is really about," Luciano said.
The couple brainstormed concepts while driving around, then filled a car with props. They asked friends and family to model for the photos. None of them are photo shopped, and all were shot during interrupted traffic.
"Sometimes we needed to get out of the way and other times the drivers would go around us. Some would stop and laugh, often times giving us their opinions about what causes potholes." They ended up shooting in New York, LA, Montreal, and Toronto.
Wolfe asked him for some of his best behind-the-scenes stories:
-"One guy wanted our hot dogs and beer from the BBQ scene, so we gave him the goods after we shot the scene."
-"One of the most challenging scenes to shoot was the laundry, because there was storm coming and props were lying all over the place."
-"While shooting Spaghetti and Meatballs... Claudia placed a bag in the pothole and filled it with the spaghetti, as soon as we took the first couple of shots a police car pulled over next to us and there was a cab waiting behind Paolo (my brother who modeled for the scene). Claudia ran over to the pothole, lifted the bag of spaghetti out of the pothole and the four of us walked away with the shot and a good story. Luckily, the policeman let us go."
