A new stretch of state highway has some commuters calling for change at an intersection that is experiencing new levels of traffic.

FLOWRY BRANCH, Ga – A new stretch of state highway has some commuters calling for change at an intersection that is experiencing new levels of traffic.

11Alive's Commuter Dude went straight to the Georgia Department of Transportation, an agency that says change is coming.

It's not hard for Melissa Albini to spot evidence of recent accidents at the intersection of Highway 347 and Spout Springs Road in Hall County. She doesn't like the recent changes there.

"Several accidents, and it's only been open a little over a month," says Albini.

Highway 347 has shifted and changed. The state DOT has re-routed traffic from an old section of 347 to a new stretch of highway. Where 347 used to dead end, now drivers travel through the intersection of Spout Springs Road.

Melissa Albini says she's seen traffic back up with drivers trying to turn left onto Spout Springs.

"I think green turning arrows would help a lot, alleviate the traffic and maybe some of the accidents," said Albini.

The DOT saysturn arrows are coming. Crews are still widening Highway 347, adding another two lanes at the intersection.

"Once the traffic is in its final configuration where the left turn lanes are, then we'll install those left turn arrows," said the DOT's Terri Pope.

The entire intersection project is expected to wrap up this summer.
