The 2012 high school basketball season is underway and one DeKalb team and player are red hot as the Stephenson Lady Jaguars have bolted to a 4-0 start behind the play of senior forward Kaliyah Mitchell.

The 6-1 Mitchell has averaged 23.3 points (93), 8.5 rebounds (34), 5.3 steals (21), 3.8 assists (15) and 2.0 blocks (8) in the four wins.

Stephenson defeated Rockdale County 74-59 to open the season then swept three games in the Morrow Thanksgiving Tournament with victories against Dutchtown (81-60), Drew (69-28) and Fayette County (70-49).

Mitchell scored 23, 22, 25 and 24 points, respectively, the four games with highs of 7 steals against Drew and Rockdale, 7 assists against Rockdale and four blocks against Drew.

Mitchell's 93 points gives her 902 for her career and moves her within just 98 points of the 1,000 point club. She also has collected 610 rebounds in her three plus seasons at Stephenson.

Stephenson hosts the 2011 Class AAAA state champions Miller Grove tonight (Tuesday, Nov. 27).
