2013 was arguably the best season in Alpharetta High School football history. The Raiders finished regular season play with eight wins and only two losses while knocking out a very impressive 7-0 record in the ever-tough Region 6-AAAAAA, bringing home the team's second regional championship in three years. However, like most programs, Alpharetta is dealing with some tough holes to fill this off-season. Including the loss of their head coach Jason Dukes.

Three-year Raider Offensive Coordinator Jacob Nichols will be replacing Coach Dukes for 2014. Like most coaches Nichols will be applying a lot of what he learned under Coach Dukes but also putting his own swing on the program at the same time. One word that was stressed over and over this off-season was "Accountability."

"I think that's a word that they're getting tired of hearing from me, Accountability," says Coach Nichols, "But that's something we've really tried to stress in the off-season."

Another point of emphasis for the Raiders this summer was speed and athleticism. Coach Nichols put in place a new training program to help his young men become "total athletes." Nichols hopes this will help prepare his guys for the long season ahead. And, of course, to help the team get over the hump in hopes of playing for a State Championship in The Dome.

Leading the Alpharetta offense will be senior quarterback, NC State commit, Austin King. King passed for over 2300 yards and accounted for 20 touchdowns in 2013. Also returning to the team will be the "Thunder and Lightening Combo," as coach Nichols likes to call his backfield tandem of Miles Smith and Len Cobbs. The Raiders are many people's picks to bring home yet another regional title in 2014.
