Georgia State coach Ron Hunter talks to Fred Kalil about March madness as the Panthers head to the conference tournament.

Georgia State gets ready for Sun Belt Conference Tournament

ATLANTA -- The Georgia State basketball team heads to New Orleans this week for the Sun Belt tournament.

As the conference regular season champions, the Panthers earned a double bye and move straight to the semi finals. T

he Western Kentucky Hilltoppers are one of 3 Sun Belt teams with 20 wins and at 20-11 appear to be the biggest hurdle the Panthers would have to clear.

Georgia State beat Western Saturday at the GSU Sports Arena for the regular season title. However, the two-time defending champion Hilltoppers haven't lost a league tournament game since March 7, 2011, and have won eight straight in the event. Georgia State handled WKU at the GSU Sports Arena Saturday 73-55.

Coach Ron Hunter has done a great job at GSU. It is his third "Urban" team. Hunter formerly coached at University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee and Indiana University/Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) taking the latter to the NCAA tournament.
