ATLANTA, Ga-- When ESPN approached Atlanta Dream star Angel McCoughtry about bearing it all in their Bodies Issue, she hesitated.

"Of course my dad, he wasn't feeling it at first," McCoughtry told 11Alive's Melissa Long on 11Alive Thursday morning. "But after talking to my family we all decided I would go ahead and do it because it's tastefully done."

The photo of McCoughtry that will be featured in the July 11th issue shows her jumping through the air, basketball in hand, headed for the hoop. She said she picked the pose.

"My image is very important to me and I come from a Christian background," she said. "They let me pick the way I wanted to be shoot in the photos, and it shows my personality. I jumped in the air a lot, what I like to do. It shows my athleticism a little bit."

Long asked McCoughtry about the striking difference between the female and male photos. While all of the men look strong and athletic, posing in action of their sport; many of the women are posed in less athletic way.

"I think some of the women picked the type of photos they want, and of course as women, we want to look cute and beautiful, so I think that's how it goes. And the men want to look more masculine and sporty. I don't think it's an issue where they're making us do it that way," she said.

McCoughtry is 6'1" of pure athleticism. She was just named to the WNBA All-Star team, and is now up for an ESPY for best WNBA athlete (VOTE HERE). The bare-all photo shows the body of a dedicated athlete.

"It's a lot of preparation and hard work," she said. "We're in the weight room a lot getting ready for our games, we have to keep our muscles up." Because of all of that work, she doesn't diet. "I eat everything. I love to eat!"

The shoot took three hours in a Krog Street warehouse. There were five or six people there for the shoot. "I was a little nervous at first, after every shot, put my robe back on, but as the shot went on I got more comfortable," she said.

While on 11Alive, McCoughtry responded to the big talker of the Body Issue, Prince Fielder: "I think it's great, I think no matter what type of body you have, you should just appreciate it. It's a great example to say I'm beautiful no matter what size or shape."
