DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- Investigators say rain may have been a contributing factor in a wreck that sent nine people to the hospital Monday afternoon.
Two tractor-trailers and several passenger vehicles were involved in the wreck on I-285 S between E. Ponce De Leon and Memorial Drive in DeKalb County.
Firefighters say the victims only had minor injuries.
The accident was certainly messy. One semi jackknifed and was destroyed. Fire fighters say that most of the people were able to get out of their vehicles okay.
While it's unclear what caused the wreck, firefighters do say there was a brief downpour just moments before the wreck.
"It wasn't raining at the time, but there was a blast of rain that lasted about 25 to 30 minutes, so the ground was definitely wet," said Captain Eric Jackson with DeKalb Fire Rescue,"the rain was definitely a contributing factor."
