ATLANTA -- A Severe Thunderstorm WARNING is in effect until 11 a.m. in Bartow, Chattooga, Floyd, Gordon, Haralson, Paulding and Polk counties.
The National Weather Service has issued a TORNADO WATCH in effect until 3 p.m. for several counties south of the metro Atlanta area. Counties affected include Butts, Carroll, Cobb, Coweta, Dekalb, Douglas, Fulton, Haralson, Heard, Henry, Jasper, Lamar, Meriwether, Newton, Paulding, Pike, Polk, Putnam, Spalding, Troup and Upson Counties. We are expecting three rounds of strong to severe weather through Monday, as well as heavy rain. The stormy pattern will intensify Saturday night into Sunday. The chance for heavy rain will be around through the day Sunday. The storm prediction center has placed Georgia in the "slight" risk area for severe thunderstorms, including the Atlanta metro.. Expect to see some pockets of heavy rain at times Sunday in the metro area, along with the possibility of hail and damaging winds. High temperatures will reach into the mid 70s. We will have to keep an eye on the potential for minor flooding, as we will likely see 1-2" of additional rain by Monday.
The rain chances go down a little Monday, but s a cold front approaches, we cold see isolated storms. Look for the return of sunshine by Tuesday and Wednesday.
