We hit 78 degrees for a high temp in Atlanta Wednesday. It's hard to believe that we will be almost 40 degrees colder by Thursday afternoon. There is even a winter weather advisory in effect for parts of NW Georgia Thursday.
The counties in the winter weather advisory are Floyd, Chattooga, Dade, Walker, Catoosa, Gordon, Murray, Whitfield, Fannin and Gilmer. Those areas will see rain first, then as cold air sweeps in it could mix with some sleet and even some freezing rain possible as temperatures late morning will be near freezing. It is possible for up to a 1/4 inch of sleet and some light glazing on trees and elevated surfaces. Temperatures will continue to fall during the day.
In the metro area, we will see the rain arrive tonight. Our high temperature for the day will occur overnight. We will drop to the 40s in the morning, then continue to fall in the afternoon. We will drop to the 30s in the afternoon hours. It will mainly be a cold rain here.
Northwest and north Georgia will have to keep an eye on the possibility of black ice developing Friday morning with any leftover moisture.
The weekend looks better. We will have a mix of sun and clouds with temperatures warming to the lower 60s.
