I-85 north at I-285 reopens after fatal wreck

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- One person was killed in an accident that shut down Interstate 85 north in DeKalb County Wednesday morning.

The Georgia Department of Transportation said two tractor trailers were involved in the wreck, which happened at I-285. One of the big rigs overturned, scattering broken glass bottles all over the road. The impact of the crash caused one trailer to split in half.

DeKalb County Fire Capt. Eric Jackson said the driver of the truck that was hit was killed in the crash and entombed in his cab. The cab was taken to the DeKalb County Medical Examiner's office, where the body will be removed.

The driver who caused the accident was injured and taken to a nearby hospital, according to Jackson. That person's name was not released; police have not yet said whether the driver will face charges.

All lanes of I-85 and the ramp to I-285 north were shut down for most of the morning. As of noon, the road has reopened.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
