Two killed in separate Cobb County crashes

COBB COUNTY, Ga. -- Cobb County police are investigating two separate crashes that left two men dead  early Sunday morning.

The first crash occurred around 2:30 a.m on I-20, between Factory Shoals Road and Riverside Parkway in Austell, Ga.

According to authorities, a black Nissan Maxima slid off the road and collided with two trees. 

The driver of the vehicle, 35-year old Victor Akan, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second crash happened just after 9 a.m on Bullard Road and Govanett Road in Powder Springs, Ga.

Witnesses said a blue Yamaha R6 motorcycle was traveling southbound on Govanett Road when it collided with a 2002 green Toyota Camry attempting to turn onto Bullard Road.

Investigators believe that in an attempt to miss the Toyota, the rider of the motorcycle locked his brakes. The motorcycle skidded into the northbound lane and struck the car.

18-year old Evan Carter was was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital but died as a result of his injuries. The driver of the Camry was not injured.
