ATLANTA - The Fulton County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously on Wednesday ot declare a local state of emergency to help deal with dangerous conditions left behind by Tropical Storm Irma.
The declaration was done on behalf of the county's 15 cities, and directs the Atlanta-Fulton County Emergency Management Agency to activate the county's Emergency Operations Plan, following the recommendations of the Georgia Emergency Managment and Homeland Security Agency after the damage left behind across the state by the storm.
This allows the county to coordinate its response with federal and state authorities in order to more easily marshal federal and state resources to aid in the response and recovery efforts across the county.
Local residents that notice downed trees and other road blockages are asked to telephone 404-613-3108. Residents that note property damage should take photographs of the damage and contact their insurance provider to determine how best to proceed.
