Dozens of Georgia counties under tornado watch

ATLANTA -- A tornado watch has been extended for dozens of other counties across the state.

The watch is in effect until 8 p.m. in: Appling, Atkinson, Bacon, Baker, Baldwin, Ben Hill, Berrien, Bibb, Bleckley, Bulloch, Butts, Calhoun, Candler, Chattahoochee, Clay, Coffee, Colquitt, Cook, Crawford, Crisp, Decatur, Dodge, Dooly, Dougherty, Early, Emanuel, Evans, Glascock, Grady, Greene, Hancock, Harris, Houston, Irwin, Jasper, Jeff Davis, Jefferson, Jenkins, Johnson, Jones, Lamar, Laurens, Lee, Macon, Marion, Meriwether, Miller, Mitchell, Monroe, Montgomery, Morgan, Muscogee, Peach, Pike, Pulaski, Putnam, Quitman, Randolph, Schley, Screven, Seminole, Spalding, Stewart, Sumter, Talbot, Taliaferro, Tattnall, Taylor, Telfair, Terrell, Thomas, Tift, Toombs, Treutlen, Troup, Turner, Twiggs, Upson, Warren, Washington, Webster, Wheeler, Wilcox, Wilkes, Wilkinson, Worth. The National Weather Service is advising people to prepare and be safe during severe weather. Here are a few tips for preparing an emergency kit and technology to help keep you informed.

That threat for severe weather includes the possibilities of a couple of tornadoes, scattered hail up to the size of a lime and isolated wind gusts up to 70 MPH. Rain showers should start moving through the area during the middle of the morning commute around 7:00.

The Storm Prediction Center puts much of our state in a "moderate" risk for severe storms.  That means there is a good chance for widespread strong storms throughout the state.

StormTracker Chesley McNeil said this storm poses a real threat and everyone should take precautions.
