Possible tornado spotted in southern Georgia

Funnel cloud captured on video

WAYCROSS, Ga. -- A man in Ware County spotted a funnel cloud Friday afternoon while riding his ATV, and he has the video to prove it.

Derrick Martin says he has never seen anything like it.

Martin told First Coast News he and a couple of friends were out riding at Fat Daddy’s ATV park near U.S. Hwy 1 South when, out of nowhere, he saw the funnel cloud.

He says it happened around 5 o’clock Friday afternoon and felt like 50 to 60 miles-per-hour winds.

“It looked like a wall," Martin said. "I am not really sure what is was. And it had a lot or rain in it and you could see a lot of lightning in it.”

Martin says no one was hurt, but they ran for shelter quickly.

“We ran -- we ran for the campers, and we rolled up our awning and everything else," he said. "It was shaking the campers and everything else -- the wind was incredible!”

The National Weather Service took a look at Martin's video and says it likely shows either a funnel cloud or a tornado.
