A popular Georgia vacation spot endured strong winds and heavy rain from a tropical storm just before Labor Day weekend.
Sustained winds from Hermine were measured at 26 MPH Friday morning at St. Simons Island. Gusts were reaching 46 MPH as the storm moved through.
Aside from a few toppled trees and some debris on the streets, the island weathered the storm pretty well.
Glynn County sheriff deputies reported no significant damage. Patrol cars made trips around the island picking up debris and working to keep the roads clear. A service announcement sent out from the county cited multiple traffic signals out because of power outages.
