ATLANTA UNITES IN SERVICE FOR MLK DAY

Hands On Atlanta Celebrates the 50th Anniversary of MLK Day with

25 Projects, 1,500 Volunteers, and 50 Sunday Suppers

ATLANTA, GA – On Monday, January 15, 2018, Hands On Atlanta will convene 1,500 Atlantans at 25 projects in volunteer service to honor Dr. Martin Luther King's legacy. Atlanta residents will be joined by hundreds of thousands of volunteers across the country on this national day of service.

“Today we answer Dr. King's call to serve and are making a difference in the lives of Atlanta residents,” said Jay Cranman, CEO of Hands On Atlanta. “Volunteering is a powerful tool that unites us around a common purpose and builds strong communities.”

The Hands On Atlanta MLK Day of Service events are generously supported by corporate sponsors and community partners, featuring Title Sponsor Coca-Cola and key partners the King Center and the Center for Civil and Human Rights. Projects range from delivering meals, refurbishing schools and community centers, collecting food and clothing, reading to children, and more. The MLK Day of Service shines a spotlight on service as a powerful force to bridge economic and social divides – today and throughout the year.

Hands on Atlanta will also engage the community in dialogue to explore ways they can address economic inequality (the theme of Dr. King's “Poor People's Campaign”) with a series of Sunday Suppers. On Sunday, January 14, Hands On Atlanta will host its Signature Sunday Supper at The Gathering Spot, while 50 other suppers take place across metro Atlanta.
