Joe Henke is 11Alive's Managing Editor. He joined the team in Atlanta in June 2016 as a reporter.

During his six-and-a-half years reporting with 11Alive, he primarily appeared in the 5 and 6 p.m. newscasts and occasionally filled in as an anchor.

Joe was recognized by the Georgia Associated Press in 2018 as the best reporter in the state and received the same award from the Georgia Association of Broadcasters in 2019. He also received several EMMY nominations.

Before joining 11Alive Joe reported for 23ABC (KERO) in Bakersfield, California, and then headed to Tulsa, Oklahoma where he reported for the NBC News affiliate 2 News Oklahoma (KJRH).

In 2015, 2016, and 2017 the Society of Professional Journalists recognized Joe as the best-broadcast reporter in Oklahoma.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism, communication studies, and creative writing from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. He later moved to Phoenix and received his master’s degree in mass communication from the Walter Cronkite School at Arizona State University.

At ASU Joe met his wife Khara. They have a daughter named Quinn.

As a Minnesota native, Joe misses the snow and still cheers on the Vikings, Timberwolves, Vikings, and Gophers.

In his free time he enjoys relaxing with his family, trying out new recipes in the kitchen, or hanging out in his backyard with a cold beverage and a tasty feast on the grill.
