Jon Shirek began his career while attending the University of Florida, working at the Independent Florida Alligator newspaper, WRUF-AM in Gainesville, FL, and WTLV-TV in Jacksonville. After graduation he worked at WTLV and then WXIA-TV in Atlanta.
