Karys Belger is a multi-skilled journalist for 11Alive Morning News. Karys joined 11Alive in October 2021 and shoots, writes, and edits all her own stories. A graduate of Spelman College, Karys is no stranger to Atlanta. She’s made a few stops in Fort Myers, Florida and Buffalo, New York. Now, Karys is happy to return to a city that feels like home.

Karys was born in Washington, D.C., to two news-junkie parents. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Spelman and a master’s degree from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.

Stories that spark conversations and shine a light on diverse communities are the stories Karys enjoys telling the most. In the past she’s covered the swearing in of New York State’s first female governor and the preservation of Black American Sign Language.

Karys’ favorite thing to do is try new restaurants and go hiking. If there’s a story that needs to be told, reach out and let her know.

“When I was young, my dad told me as I got older I would meet people who had different experiences and perspectives and the best thing I could do is listen. I think it’s fitting that’s what I’m doing for a living,” said Belger.
