The numbers are out on just how much Delta's power outage last month cost the airline company. Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines says the computer outage that canceled 2300 flights cost the carrier some $100-million in revenue. Delta says the outage led to a nearly 3% decrease in system traffic in August.
Instacart, is expanding in Atlanta. Customers can now shop at Publix through the online grocery delivery service. Whole foods, Costco, Kroger and Petco are already available to shoppers. Asian grocer, Hmart, is expected to come online in the next few weeks. Instacart has been operating in Atlanta for two years and continues to expand throughout the city and suburbs.
And if you prefer to just have someone else do the meal prep, Home Chef is also expanding. The meal kit delivery service is expected to create more than 1200 jobs and invest more than three million dollars in DeKalb County. The new facility will be the company’s assembly, packaging and distribution site for the southeast region.
The Technology Association of Georgia has announced its next president. Larry Williams has been chosen to succeed out-going tag president Tino Mantella. Williams is currently the president and CEO of the Beacon Council, Miami Dade County’s business development partnership. But Williams isn't new to Atlanta. He served as vice president of technology development at the Metro Atlanta Chamber. Williams will take the helm as president and CEO of TAG later this year.
Atlanta-based Equifax announced an alliance with Adobe. The partnership will allow adobe to take advantage of Equifax’s eye-ex-eye services on the adobe audience manager’s Marketplace Platform. And Equifax has also expanded across the pond. The credit reporting company has opened up a second IT center in Dublin, Ireland. The office will support Equifax’s IT research and development projects.
Hirewire, the tinder for freelance service gigs app, has raised $1.8 million dollars. According to the Atlanta Business Chronicle, the company has raised nearly $4 million from angel investors. The new funds will go towards product development, sales and expansion.
Finally, the RAISE Funding Forum is accepting applications. The Emory sponsored event matches investors with startups looking to raise between one to five million dollars. 10 startups will be selected to present to investors in November. Startups must agree to stay in the southeast for at least five year and will get training to before pitching to investors. The deadline to apply is September 22nd.
