British TV host Kirstie Allsopp is facing serious online backlash after she came out publicly and admitted that when she flies with her family, "the boys (ages 10 and 12) do fly separately from my partner Ben and me if we’re not in economy together." Kirstie defended her actions claiming that flying first class is a "privilege" and the young boys do not deserve such an expensive ticket. “First class should be a huge treat you’ve worked hard for. If kids get used to it, what do they have to work towards? It seems like an absurd waste of money and very spoiling."

The backlash over Kirstie's admission was swift, with people on Twitter slamming her "selfish" choice as a mother. Many people saying that this leaves many airline hostesses to become "babysitters" while the parents remain totally uninvolved. Others were worried about behavior issues, saying that children that young shouldn't be left unattended while other passengers have to deal with it.

Kirstie, feeling the backlash, tweeted that kids of this age flying "alone" should be the least of people's worries.

Kirstie also said that if she's going to spend money on "a holiday, then I'm going to spend it on the place...not the airline tickets." Celebrity Chef Gordon Ramsay last year admitted that he and his family did the same thing - however there was almost no backlash.
