Ellen DeGeneres honored with Carol Burnett award at 2020 Golden Globes

‘Saturday Night Live’ actress Kate McKinnon presented the Carol Burnette Excellence in Television award to the star.

LOS ANGELES — Ellen DeGeneres received the Golden Globes' biggest honor Sunday night.

"Saturday Night Live" actress Kate McKinnon presented the Carol Burnette Excellence in Television award to the star.

The comedian and adored talk show host walked to the stage wearing a metallic and black suit.

“I’m not going to be long this is going to be quick,” the star joked at the podium.

DeGeneres is a multiple Emmy winner and Golden Globe nominee.

The prestigious honor from the Hollywood Foreign Press is given annually to honor someone "who has made outstanding contributions to television on or off the screen."

Ellen thanked her hero Carol Burnette, who took home the award last year.

“I feel like you’ve gotten to know me over the past 17 years. We all think that we know someone we watch on TV. Carol Burnette is that person for me,” DeGeneres said.

“I felt like I knew her. She’s showed us who she really was every single week. She never let us down,” DeGeneres continued. ”Television influenced everything I am today. All I ever wanted was to make people laugh.”

In a statement, association President Lorenzo Soria hailed DeGeneres as "a pioneer who has captivated audiences for nearly 25 years with her undeniable charm and wit.”

Ellen DeGeneres faced backlash when she came out on her primetime sitcom in 1997. Her show was cancelled, and the comedian spent years out of the spotlight.

The star triumphed after premiering the Ellen DeGeneres show in 2003.
