Make your home famous, and get paid!

You can register your home or business as a potential movie or tv show location for free through a state of Georgia website.
Your home may be just what a movie or TV producer needs for their next project

ATLANTA - Georgia's film boom not only gives you a chance to appear on TV or in movies, your home could star in a production too.

Think about the homes at the center of some of classic TV shows and movies. From Walter White's home in "Breaking Bad", to the house in "A Christmas Story", and "The Brady Bunch" home, the house played nearly as big of a role as the stars. And each was a regular suburban home chosen to act as a set.

The Georgia Film Office, through the Georgia Department Of Economic Development maintains a database of homes and businesses for movie and TV shooting locations and you can add your home to the list.

"It's a great way to be considered for a film location", says the Deputy Commissioner of the Georgia Film Office, Lee Thomas.

It's as easy as clicking the link above and following the instructions. The GDEcD suggests a few exterior pictures of your home including at least one that shows its setting and gives a feel for the neighborhood. They also ask for a few interior pictures. The photos don't need to be professional but they should be clear and lighted properly.

If you own a business you can register it as a location as well.

Remember, your home doesn't have to resemble the Taj Mahal. Smaller, older homes, and even manufactured homes may be just what a director needs for their scene.

Thomas says films portray all walks of life, and different eras. So they want to make sure they've got a good selection no matter what a film maker is after.

"We get calls for all size of houses. It may be a starter home or more established family home. We get calls for all kinds of periods so they may need an original looking '50’s home or '6o’s home, so it’s great to have all types on homes in our database", Thomas says.

Now if you're wondering how much to expect to get paid if your home is chosen, the answer is, "It depends."

Everything from the size of the production's budget, to the impact the production may have on your home, and even what the scene requires can all impact how much you are paid. If someone is interested in using your home, they'll make you an offer, and then it's up to you to decide if you want to take it.

There's also a place where you can register your home for crews to rent while they're here for long-term shoots as well as office space and warehouse space, so you may be able to make some money even if your home or office never makes it on screen.
