Meghan Trainer brings that bass to 'Songland'

The ‘All About That Bass’ singer takes pitches from upcoming songwriters

ATLANTA —

Singer Meghan Trainor flowed onto the same wavelength as a contestant during her appearance on NBC’s ‘Songland.’

The competition featuring Ester Dean, Ryan Tedder and Shane McAnally as judges gives rising songwriters the opportunity to pitch a song to an artist as their next big hit. At the end of each show, the artist decides their favorite from the batch and releases it.

“It’s really cool to show viewers at home how to write a song, and hot its a journey and not just something that magically appears,” The ‘All About That Bass’ vocalist said.

Trainor said she is currently working on her third-studio album and is looking for new songs.

On the show, Trainor also said she loves the ‘power anthems that are sassy.’ And that was exactly what one songwriter delivered that night.

In an empowering performance, songwriter Kole debuted the song ‘Hurt Me’ which landed appraisal from the judges, including Trainor.

“This should be your first single. I’ll take it,” Trainor said.

On June 25, the artist released the studio version of the track, starring Nicole Cohen, Kole, as a credited composer.

Trainor also released her single ‘Treat Myself’ in July that is expected to be featured on her upcoming album.
