Offset in legal trouble after smacking phone out of teen's hand

This is a developing story.

ATLANTA — One of the members of the Atlanta-based rap group Migos is facing felony charges, after a teenager recently accused him of smacking his cell phone unto the ground.

Sandy Springs Police said there is an active warrant for criminal damage to property in the 2nd degree.

A video posted by TMZ shows Offset, who is legally known as Kiari Cephus, smacking towards the phone as he left a Target in Sandy Springs last Thursday. The Georgia fan, 18-year-old Richard Gibbons told other news outlet that he saw him, pulled out his phone and began recording the rapper after he checked out at the Target. In the video the fan said, "What's up Offset?"

According to the police report the phone is worth $800.

Many celebrities, including Cardi B, Halle Berry, Wendy Williams, Jennifer Lawrence and more have spoken out about their right to privacy in public spaces. It's been an ongoing conversation in Hollywood.

The father recently went viral after he reconnected with his father for the first time after 23 years. He also released his solo "Father of Four" album back  in February, followed by an extensive press run on the importance of being an involved father.

Cephus also attended the Billboard Awards Wednesday night with his wife, Cardi B.
