TV shows and movies currently being made in Georgia

Here’s a look at some of the productions in action throughout several parts of the state this week.

As we head into February 2020, more than 31 television and film projects are currently in progress throughout Georgia.

TV projects like the upcoming Barry Jenkins Amazon series “Underground Railroad,” the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe show “Falcon and The Winter Soldier,” DC Comic’s “Doom Patrol,” and the hit Netflix series “Stranger Things” are all being produced throughout metro Atlanta.

An upcoming biopic on the life of soul singer Aretha Franklin, “Red Notice,” a new Netlflix action movie in the works starring Dwayne Johnson, and “Samaritan” an upcoming action drama starring Sylvester Stallone rank as some of the blockbusters in the making in our state.

Here’s a look at some of the productions in action throughout several parts of the state this week.

Film crews were spotted working near Stone Mountain Park. Josie M. Davis shared pictures of the basecamp sign outside of the park on January 29.

Last week, we reported that a fitting for an upcoming funeral scene was also taking place on January 28.

Some of the cast members include Thuso Mdedu, Chase W. Dillon, and Aaron Pierre, according to Variety.

The outlet reports the show will chronicle one woman’s journey after escaping a Georgia plantation.

Jenkins, director of the award-winning motion pictures "Moonlight" and "If Beale Street Could Talk," has been tapped to direct 11 episodes of the upcoming one-hour series.

While Jenkins directed a single episode of Netflix's "Dear White People" in 2017, this is his first full-scale television project.

Scenes with Jennifer Hudson, who stars as the iconic soul singer, were being filmed inside the First Congregational Church of Atlanta on Monday.

Ashley Pulliam, an A-Scene Insider, shared an image of crews lighting the church from outside on Courtland Street near Georgia Tech. Several trucks for equipment and trailers were also visible in the shot.

Hudson shared some of the fun from behind the scenes with a video of her 10-year-old son, David Daniel, playing video games in her trailer.

“When your kid is living his best life in your trailer! #respect,” she wrote in an Instagram post.

Two weeks prior, she shared an intimate snap with her on-camera romance Marlon Wayans. The comedic actor, who is no stranger to filming productions in Georgia, will play Franklin's first husband, Ted White.

Wayans posed with Hudson off-set. The two shared a series of pictures getting cozy on social media.

Forrest Whitaker, Audra McDonald, Titus Burges, and Grammy Award-winner Mary J. Blige are all set to appear in the film.

The basecamp sign used as the working title for this movie is “QOS,” which is the abbreviation of the singer’s title “Queen of Soul." Recently, the sign “RPL” has been associated with the production.

Just a few weeks ago, MGM Studios released the first trailer of Hudson as Franklin. The star sang an a capella rendition of the title track of the movie, which is one of Franklin's biggest hits.

STRANGER THINGS

Production on the highly anticipated upcoming fourth season of “Stranger Things” is officially taking off in Georgia!

We are learning that Casting Taylor Made is beginning to look for background actors to be featured in scenes of the 1980s-inspired sci-fi thriller.

The company, owned by Heather Taylor, revealed it will cast adults between the ages of 18 and 100 and minors between the ages of 0 and 17. The agency said the series will also pay actors to use their vintage vehicles in upcoming scenes.

Actors who want to be featured as extras in upcoming scenes are encouraged to apply once.

There is no word on when actual filming for Strangers Things will begin.

Last year, we spoke with Taylor about what it takes to bring some of the supersonic looks together.

The A-Scene’s Francesca Amiker sat down with the casting extraordinaire right in the middle of the production.

“I would say this year we have so many more people that are interested in being extras due to the popularity of the show. So, we’ve been able to really get the best look of the 80s this season,” Taylor said.

Several fans and residents have speculated that they have spotted the stars in action, but it simply isn’t true. The location used for the Hawkins Lab is also utilized for other filming locations. Check out our feature here.

Red Notice (Yellow basecamp sign: KARATE DOLPHIN)

If you happen to see the sign “Karate Dolphin” in your area, it’s for the upcoming Netflix original action drama “Red Notice” starring Dwayne Johnson.

Johnson shared the excited of the first day of filming on Instagram. The star, who is also set to appear with Oprah Winfrey, during her tour stop in Atlanta shouted out his castmates Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds.

“In the world of international crime, an Interpol issued RED NOTICE is a global alert to hunt down and capture the worlds most wanted. The world’s greatest art thief. The world’s greatest tracker.
The world’s greatest conman. #REDNOTICE♟💎,” Johnson wrote.

Johnson, who is no stranger to overseeing and starring in productions in Georgia, is  a producer under his Seven Buck Productions company.
