Cobb County teen uses birthday to collect supplies for middle school students

It's the fifth year Gabrielle Tobin has donated school supplies in lieu of birthday presents.

MABLETON, Ga. — A Cobb County teen and Girl Scout is using her birthday as a way to give back and support local students.

This marks the fifth year 15-year-old Gabrielle Tobin has donated supplies to a local school instead of asking for birthday presents. The effort is part of her 40 Mustard Seeds Foundation

“School supplies are the foundation to my academic success which is why I created a 'foundation' to do the same for my peers,” Tobin said.

This year, Tobin teamed up with families and students of Primrose Schools of Providence Pavilion in order to meet her birthday goal.

"It makes me feel super happy that I can come back to my old daycare and see people who I've known for such a long time are willing to help me," she told 11Alive's Liza Lucas.

Tobin, a Gold Award Girl Scout, was able to not only meet her goal to collect enough supplies for at least 300 students, but with Primrose School's help, she was able to garner enough supplies to cover all of the students at Lindley 6th Grade Academy. Tobin also presented $500 to the school to help support teachers.

Last year, Tobin created peer-to-peer math tutoring videos for students as part of her 'Gold Award' project.
