CUMMING, Ga. — Sips n Strokes art studio is coloring for a cause, bringing joy to nursing home residents who can't have visitors due to the coronavirus.
The art studio with locations in Sandy Springs, Woodstock, and Toco Hills launched its 'Color for a Cause' initiative on Tuesday online and on their website. The campaign encourages kids and adults to download free coloring sheets and write messages for senior center residents.
Owner of the three area Sips n Strokes, Sandra Lewis, says that she just kept thinking about the people that are going to hurt the most with social distance.
"While I'm worried about our business, I knew that I needed to think about the people in our communities that are suffering even more. With social distancing, a lot of the elderly population won't have access to their friends and family right now," says Lewis
Lewis explains that's when she thought of the 'Color for a Cause' initiative.
"I just want those in senior homes to feel like they are loved and people are thinking about them while they're isolated," says Lewis.
The campaign was launched on social media and the color sheets can be downloaded here. Once you or your child has completed their drawing, Sip n Stroke is asking that you write a message of encouragement and color scan the drawing. Once you have a color scan of the image, you're asked to email ColorForACause@sipsnstrokes.com.

Lewis says that they have partnered with Pruitthealth so far with over 60 locations across the state including one in Duluth and Lilburn.
"We hope to continue to expand this program and get even more senior groups and participants involved," says Lewis.
While the three studios deal with a decrease in events and in-studio classes, the owners have also launched take-home paint kits that include a canvas, paintbrushes, and an image with guidelines to copy.
Owners also say they plan to launch virtual classes in the near future.
