Back-To-School Supply List: 1st Grade

By the time your student is a 1st Grader, he or she is starting to get the hang of things, but it's all still fresh.

As everyone gets into the Back-To-School mindset, one of the first things that folks are looking for are supplies for their students as they head off to school.

Rather than waiting until the First Day of School, many parents want to get a jump on the lines and get their supply closets stocked before school starts.

Students in each grade have different types of supplies they need, based on the work in each classroom. The teachers have their preferences, but here's a general listing separated by grade.

This list is collated from several schools' existing lists and is meant as a starting point. Your own list may need to vary upward or downward, depending on your school, the number of little ones you are shopping for, the requirements your school may have and your own personal preferences.

  • 2 boxes of #2 pencils
  • Pencil sharpener (the idea is to sharpen the pencils at home before the kids take them, of course)
  • 2 Elmer's glue sticks
  • 1 box of tissues
  • 1 roll of paper towels
  • 4 wide dry erase markers
  • 2 fat pink erasers
  • 1 box of 24-count Crayola crayons
  • 1 pair of blunt-cut scissors
  • 1 solid color, single-subject, 70-sheet, Wide Ruled spiral notebook (no characters or decorations on the front)
  • 1 pack of white copy paper
  • 1 pack of Ziploc gallon size bags
  • 1 pack of Ziploc sandwich size bags
  • 3 composition notebooks, Wide Ruled
  • 1 pair of thin-wired headphones for computer listening
  • 3 twin-pocket folders with prongs for inserting loose-leaf papers
  • 3 twin-pocket folders without prongs
  • 1 loose-leaf binder
  • 1 pack of Wide Ruled, lined paper
