ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- Hire Heroes USA is one of thousands of nonprofit agencies taking part in the 4th annual Georgia Gives Day on November 12.

Hire Heroes USA is a military-focused nonprofit based in Alpharetta that empowers U.S. military members, veterans and spouses to find new careers in the civilian workforce. Career coaching services are provided at no cost to the veteran.

Georgia Gives Day was started by the Georgia Center for Nonprofits to drive awareness and donations for participating nonprofits across Georgia, encouraging residents to come together for a 24-hour day of giving.

Since the inaugural event in 2012, Georgia Gives Day has brought nearly 30,000 donors to more than 2,000 participating organizations, raising more than $5.1 million to support the nonprofits' individual causes.

According to a survey of all donors who participated in Georgia Gives Day 2014, 9 percent made their first-ever donation to a nonprofit, 15 percent gave to a new nonprofit, and 20 percent donated more than they budgeted to give on Georgia Gives Day.

Timing is critical for Hire Heroes USA.

In the next four years, one million men and women are expected to transition from the military to the civilian workforce.

Without effective employment assistance, many of these former service members could join the ranks of 500,000 veterans already unemployed.

The approach of Hire Heroes USA is to empower veterans, transitioning military members and their spouses by building the confidence and skills necessary to obtain civilian employment through free, individualized programs.
