Woman turns herself in, returns dog after stealing it from shelter

A 2-year-old Yorkshire Terrier mix was went missing when the original adopter of the dog came in to pick it up and she was nowhere to be found.

ATLANTA - A woman has turned herself in and returned a dog she had stolen from an animal shelter in February, 2018.

Leah Zinn, 24, turned herself into Atlanta police and had warrants out for misdemeanor theft by taking from an incident on February 11.

A 2-year-old Yorkshire Terrier mix was went missing when the original adopter of the dog came in to pick it up and she was nowhere to be found.

Employees later found surveillance footage of a couple taking the dog out of its cage and walking out with her.

"Thanks to media coverage and Crime Stoppers tips, APD's Animal Cruelty Liaison was able to identify the two suspects in the dog theft that occurred on February 11, 2018 at 860 Marietta Blvd. NW. The dog was returned unharmed."

The man shown in the surveillance video, identified as Daniel Whitehead, 43, has yet to turn himself in. Whitehead also has a warrant out for misdemeanor theft by taking.
