Atlanta Streetcar temporarily closes for emergency power repairs

The streetcar suspended service Monday at 6 pm.

ATLANTA — The Atlanta Streetcar is temporarily powering down in order for crews to make emergency power repairs.

The streetcar suspended service Monday at 6 pm. so crews could work on an underground power cable near Georgia Power's Butler Substation off Auburn Avenue. Officials said the cable is at risk of failing and causing extended power losses to customers.

In order to repair the cable, power crews will have to access the corner at Aubrun Avenue and Jesse Hill Road, an intersection located directly along the streetcar line.

Officials expect the streetcar to be inoperable for two days, until 6 a.m. Wednesday. At that time, the streetcar will resume normal operations.
