GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- A Georgia inmate is dead after an apparent suicide at a state prison in Gwinnett County.
The Georgia Department of Corrections confirmed that a corrections officer at Phillips State Prison near Buford found Demitri Carter unresponsive in his cell. The department said medical staff at the hospital tried to save the inmate's life but he ultimately pronounced dead around 2:50 p.m.
