ATLANTA -- Police said that callers reported seeing a bear in Buckhead Thursday afternoon.
According to Atlanta Police spokesperson Lisa Bender, callers have reported seeing a bear on Belvedere Drive and Glenbrook Drive.
Surveillance video in the area did indeed show an image of a bear. 11Alive's Kaitlyn Ross interviewed a woman who said she came home from lunch and saw the bear climbing her 6-foot fence.
Chuck Waters of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources said it's best to leave bears alone. He encourages residents not to leave trash or pet food out. According to Waters, this is the time of the year that bears move around and follow creek beds and sewers, so sightings aren't totally uncommon.
Ways to keep bears away from your home:
- Bear-proof garbage cans
- Remove bird feeders
- Cut down your fruit trees
- Clean your grills
