MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis Animal Care and Control is waiving adoption fees on Friday, November 22, hoping to get all adoptable animals into homes before the holiday season.

The shelter will be open from 1-6 p.m., with no adoption paperwork to be started after 5:30 p.m. While adoption fees will be waived, Minneapolis residents will still need to purchase a city pet license. A one-year license for a spayed or neutered dog or cat costs $30.

The shelter asks that adopters plan to spend time with their potential new pet. If more than one person is interested in an animal, there will be a drawing to decide who will adopt. The shelter also notes on their website that arriving before the shelter opens does not count as being first.

Please come prepared if you plan to adopt! Cats need to leave in a carrier, or a transport box can be bought at the shelter. Adopted dogs need to leave on a leash, or the shelter can provide a slip lead.

An adoption application is available online, and can be filled out prior to arriving at the shelter. Check out some the adoptable animals here!
