ATLANTA — Every year across the country, men and women are killed in the line of service while working in the towing and recovery industry.
In 2023, 20 two truck drivers were killed. Three of them died on the job across metro Atlanta.
In Georgia, the 'move over' law was passed to protect first responders, including tow truck operators, by requiring drivers to slow down and move over when responders are working scenes along the roadways.
On Saturday, the Towing & Recovery Association of Georgia (TRAG) will host its second annual Move Over Georgia Day at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton. TRAG is a non-profit trade association dedicated to the towing, recovery and storage industry in Georgia.
The events kick off at 9 a.m. on Saturday. TRAG encourages the community to support the industry and meet the heroes who answer those calls 24/7.
Attendees will hear from the family of Frank Ingram, who was killed on I-575 in Cherokee County in October of 2023.
There will be a show-and-shine contest and a truck parade. If you would like to participate, you can register on Saturday morning.
There will also be several fun contests throughout the morning, following an awards ceremony around noon.
For more information or to register for an event, visit TRAG's website.
