17-year-old arrested in shooting of 11-year-old, teen cousin as they sat on their Buckhead porch

The original incident occurred in December.

ATLANTA — Atlanta Police announced Wednesday the arrest of a 17-year-old in the shooting of an 11-year-old and his 18-year-old cousin as they sat on their Buckhead porch in December.

In an incident report from the time, police said the 11-year-old victim was shot in the left thigh and buttocks, and the 18-year-old victim was shot in his abdomen and forearm.

The 11-year-old described a group of males in masks walking past the house before they "walked back towards them and started shooting, apparently for no reason."

Police found 14 shell casings in the area after the shooting, the report said.

Now, police say they have a suspect, Brandon Nicanor-Cruz, in custody.

So far he is being charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was 16 at the time of the incident.

It's not clear if there are other suspects still at large.
