Man arrested after shooting nearby Mercedes-Benz Stadium leaves 3 hospitalized

Police said all three people are in stable condition at this time.

ATLANTA — One man is in custody after a shooting in Atlanta Saturday not far from Mercedes-Benz Stadium left three people hospitalized.

According to a statement from the Atlanta Police Department, the violent incident happened around 10 p.m. at the intersection of Peters Street and Walker Street SW. That is located about a mile from where the SEC Championship was held at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Preliminary reports indicate at least one person started shooting outside of 301 Peters Street — the address of a bar in the area called Cru Hemp Lounge. A security guard working there reportedly shot toward one of the suspects and was hit during the exchange of gunfire. According to Atlanta Police, an off-duty officer working nearby responded after hearing gunshots.

Officials said other responding police officers later arrested a man the off-duty officer described as a suspect. Police said the man was found armed with two handguns.

Three men were shot, all of them taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Right now, details about what led up to the shooting are still unclear. Police said they are still working to gather more information and identify all potential suspects.

11Alive will update this story as more details become available.
