3 struck by hit-and-run driver on I-285 after car fire

Police are searching for the driver of the blue Ford Mustang that drove away from the scene.

A rear-end crash, car fire and a hit-and-run left three people injured and several lanes shut down for more than four hours on I-285 eastbound at Northside Drive early Wednesday morning.

Samuel Worsham with the Sandy Springs Police Department said the crash happened around 2 a.m. and caused a major back-up.

Worsham said one car was hit from behind and caught on fire. That's when officials said a third driver stopped to help by pulling out a fire extinguisher. While trying to put out the fire, Worsham said all three people were stuck by a blue Ford Mustang. Instead of staying on the scene, the driver of the Ford Mustang drove away from the scene with heavy front end damage, Worsham said. Police are currently looking for the driver of that blue Ford Mustang.

The three victims were taken to a local hospital for treatment. Worsham said he doesn't know the current condition of the victims.

Anyone with information regarding the driver of the blue Ford Mustang is asked to contact the Sandy Springs Police Department at 770-551-6900.
