ATLANTA — Atlanta Police looking into a report of shots fired just outside of Buckhead ended up shutting down an intersection as they detained three people during their investigation.

Officers were called to the 400 block of Armour Drive NE in Piedmont Heights in reference to gunfire and spoke with witnesses. One described a man walking around in the area with a gun before heading toward a vehicle.

The witness was able to provide a description to officers - one that matched a vehicle they saw less than a mile away on Monroe Drive.  From there, police said they conducted a traffic stop and detained the people inside.

However, the detainment happened in front of Atlanta Fire-Rescue Station 29 which is also the intersection of Monroe Drive and the Buford Spring Connector northbound off-ramp.

The investigation briefly blocked traffic at the intersection though police haven't said if the people they've detained ended up being involved in the nearby gunfire.
