'Not alert, not conscious and not breathing': Victim in west Atlanta shooting pronounced dead at scene

Here is what we know.

ATLANTA — Police are investigating after finding a man unconscious with a gunshot wound to the head - and soon confirming his death.

Authorities confirmed the shooting happened Friday evening around 8:30 p.m. at 62 Harwell Road NW - an apartment on the city's westside near I-285.

A spokesperson described the victim found in a vehicle at the scene as "not alert, not conscious and not breathing." The victim, who hasn't yet been named publicly, was soon pronounced dead at the scene.

Homicide investigators have been notified and are responding to the scene to determine the circumstances of the crime as the investigation continues.
