Atlanta Police say Sunday morning shooting may be drug-related

Police said the incident began inside an apartment before moving to the front lawn where the victim's body was found.

ATLANTA -- Officers responded to a reported shooting early Sunday morning in the 900 block of DeSoto Street in northwest Atlanta's Washington Park community.

According to Atlanta Police Homicide Unit Lt. Andrea Webster, when they arrived, officers discovered a dead man in his 30s in front of the apartment building who had been shot multiple times.

She said the shooting had apparently started from an incident inside one of the apartments before moving into the front lawn area where the victim's body was found.

The shooting victim was later identified as 41-year-old Dedrell Knox of Atlanta.

Investigators said the shooting appears to have been narcotics related. When questioned on that point, Webster said there was evidence of narcotics around the location of the incident.

Webster said there was no suspect description immediately available, however, video pertaining to the case was being reviewed.

The incident remains under investigation.
