Atlanta Police speak with woman who says she wasn't kidnapped

Atlanta police originally said a man forcibly took the mother of his children away from a southwest Atlanta apartment at gunpoint early Saturday.

ATLANTA — Atlanta Police say they've spoken with a woman they first reported may have been kidnapped - and she's denying the claim.

The department turned to the public for help in locating a woman who they said was taken at gunpoint by the father of her children early Saturday morning.

Sgt. John Chafee said officers were summoned to an apartment in the 1900 block of Alison Court in southwest Atlanta at about 5 a.m., over a dispute with a weapon.

Chafee said the initial investigation indicates a group of friends had arrived at the apartment when another man -- identified by police as 27-year-old Markus Leach -- forced his way in.

When Leach came in, investigators said he confronted a woman in the group, and forcibly took her out of the apartment.

According to Chafee, Leach and the alleged victim were involved in a relationship and have children together.

When others from the group tried to confront Leach, investigators said he pulled out a handgun. Chafee said Leach forced the woman into a black Nissan sedan and they drove off.

But hours later, police have released an update claiming that the woman came to the Zone 4 precinct and met with officers advising she was not harmed. She also denied being kidnapped. No charges are being filed at this time but police still want to speak with Leach regarding the incident. However, they haven't yet found him.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS or online at StopCrimeATL.com

Tipsters do not have to give their name or any identifying information to be eligible for the reward of up to $2,000 for the arrest and indictment of the suspect.
